About the Author

On December 28, ’09, I began to write about the experiences which started with me having an uncommon disease for 14 years. I was unable to get help until, after reading about Cushing’s disease in a pre-nursing textbook, I pursued a medical diagnosis and removal of a brain tumor followed.*  A close relationship with the medical community commenced, both as a healthcare worker (emergency room technician and nursing student) and patient. Since the brain surgery, I’ve experienced 15 more surgeries (not including several root canals), numerous MRI’s and other diagnostic procedures, good and bad doctors, good and bad hospital stays and surgical treatments and countless other events either directly or indirectly related to being a patient too much of the time. During this time I completed my bachelor’s degree in health sciences and received a masters in human services with a gerontology specialization. I’ve learned many things through a variety of experiences which may help (and maybe entertain) others.

I look forward to seeing your comments and questions, or you can personally e-mail me at: theprofessionalpatient@gmail.com.

Cheers!

*(While everyone’s experience with Cushing’s disease varies, the videos below are of women who had similar disease symptoms to mine caused by pituitary tumors. It is explained very well).

Hello Nancy, I have been a friend of your mother, Dottie, for many, many years. We worked together at Olliver/Pilcher than on to Willis, etc. She sent me your info. and I think it is just terrific that you have carried on with your education considering all of the health issues that you have overcome.

My best wishes to you for 2010.

That is why all Dr’s call it practicing medicine, not perfecting medicine
